  • Welcome Eagles - Fall 2016

I hope you are having a wonderful summer! It is already August and our first day of school is September 7th at 8:45am. Our floors are waxed and we are preparing! 6th grade students will kick off the year with a morning orientation on September 7th. Parents are welcome to walk students to the cafeteria for name tags and then to the auditorium. While 6th graders get oriented, returning 7th and 8th grade students will reconnect with their peers in homeroom and get ready to begin the year. New 7th and 8th graders will have a special orientation—more information will be available soon.

Check website for updates.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your student’s schedule (such as a student placed in wrong math class), the Eckstein Counseling Department staff will be available to answer questions via return emails, phone calls or in person on the following days and times:

  • 2016/17 Eighth Graders at Camp Orkila - 9/19 - 9/21

As part of Eckstein’s school-wide focus on building community and providing meaningful collaborative hands-on learning opportunities, the entire 8th grade will have the opportunity to attend Camp Orkila next fall from September 19th-21st. Students (and adults!) will spend two days and nights at Camp Orkila, and Orcas Island and the surrounding Puget Sound will become the “classroom” as they learn and engage in high interest science labs and a full schedule of team-building experiences.

Please don't scan and email us the documents. We need to have the originals.

  • Attention Incoming Sixth Graders!

Eckstein is excited to welcome incoming 6th graders to a special WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Day on Monday, August 29th from 8am to noon in the Eckstein gym.

This will be a great chance for students to get familiar with Eckstein, meet their 8th grade student leaders, and learn how to achieve success in middle school. Because the day is active, please make sure your student wears comfortable clothing. Also, there is no need to bring a backpack or materials on this day. Transportation and lunch are not provided. While it is not mandatory for students to attend, it is highly encouraged. Additionally, if your student needs any special accommodations, please email Stacey Norman at slnorman@seattleschools.org. Thanks, and we hope to see your student on August 29th!

  • Summer Reading for Incoming Eighth Graders

It is vitally important as you embark on your final year of middle school that you continue to increase your reading stamina. Your 8th grade English department will help ensure you do not slide backwards in your reading skills over the summer by requiring you to complete a summer reading activity. We are asking that you read at least two of the books and have a conversation with a family member about that book.

The books for you to choose from are the Eagles Read selections for 2016-2017 school year and a book to prepare you for social studies this year. Spectrum students and students looking for a challenge must read two books from the Eagles Read list and one book from the list on the second page of the paper below (THREE total books).

Parents and Guardians - Student safety is our top priority, and you can help us keep students safe by keeping these things in mind as you drop off and pick up your child at Eckstein:

  • Drive SLOWLY and USE EXTRA CAUTION whenever driving near the school
  • Do NOT drop off or pick up in the bus zone in front of Eckstein - Remind your student to cross the street at the crosswalk in front of the school, not at the corner of 30th & 75th where visibility is poor

Thank you for your cooperation in creating a safe environment for all of our kids!
